Avachinsky Volcano

Despite the activity the volcano is available for visitors. People, even having no any experience, supervised by guides can reach the crater for 6-8 hours. From the top of the volcano one can see the scenery panorama of giant cone of Koryaksky Volcano, northward from the cone the valley of Nalycheva River spreads widely and several ridges behind. To the East one can see Kozelsky Volkano. Petropavlovsk, Avachinskaya Bayand ocean can been seen in the south direction.

Avachinsky Volcano has a very complicated construction, it is a twofold volcano, the down part being formed by somma, having the diameter of more than four kilameters. Modern cone is situated symmetrically in the somma. The cone is of correct shape, the absolute height is 2751 m, the relative height – 400–1000 m. The top of the cone ends with a crater. Until 1991 there was a true crater 220 m deep and of 350 m in diameter, later, in the course of eruption the crater was totally filled with lava, a small flow of lava took place at the southern slope of the cone.  In the whole the surface of the cone is smooth, and only neat the very top the surface bears some conglomerations of lava caused by eruptions of recent time.

Fumarols are active in Avacha throughout all the surface of  hardened lava. A number of visible and invisible funnels, spread in the rocks, breeze out the puffs of steam and gases. The steam of fumaroles bears sulphur, sal ammoniac, crystallizing at the crater walls and around the funnels and covering the plots with coating of different  colors. The strongest outcomes  can be seen at the side to Kozelsky Volcano, where the top crater goes down.
