The Climate

The Climate

Characteristic feature of the climate is diversity and instability of the weather because of the influence of the surrounding seas, the Pacific Ocean and mountainous relief. The quantity of precipitation in Kamchatka differs greatly every season and is higher than in any other regions of Russia. The most amount of precipitation falls on the mountainside in the South of the peninsula.
Summer in Kamchatka can be rainy. In winter the weather is very changeable, that can be proved by sudden snowfalls and strong wind. Sometimes the month value of precipitation or even more falls for twenty-four hours. On the whole there is a heavy fall of precipitation in the cold time of the year than in the warm one. In the Southern part, where Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is situated, the climate is maritime, wet, with mild winters and relatively warm summers and autumns. Winter lasts for about 5 months, from the middle of November till March or April.
Spring is under the freezing influence of the Pacific Ocean and lasts only 2 months from April till May. For the people, who are fond of mountain ski and snowboard, the best time for skiing is from December till January, also from March till May. The period from the middle of January till February is not successful for these kinds of sport because of strong cyclones. The tourist season lasts in Kamchatka from July till September. Its highest point begins in the end of July and lasts till the middle of September. At this time you’ll enjoy the unexplored wilderness of Kamchatka and visit unique Places!
